U.S. Federal Innovation 14: Orson Welles

Well, the feds aren't responsible for Orson Welles, but the New Deal-funded Federal Theater Project helped contribute to his rise in the performing world. Mr. Welles directed the FTP's most popular production, a Haitian, or “voodoo,” Macbeth in 1935. The FTP's primary goal was to employ out-of-work artists, writers, and directors during the depression.
